Weekly Brazos River Outlook – Sept 26, 2022

Currently, the Brazos River in Richmond remains low at Gage Elevation 8.27 feet. The Region is expecting its first cold front for the Fall Season to push through this week. This will bring cooler temperatures with highs in mid-to upper 80s. With the cold front, the forecast is calling for sunny skies with low rain chances for the next 7 to 10 days. The 7-Day Quantitative Precipitation Forecast (QPF) is showing the lower Brazos River Watershed receiving less than ¼ inch over the next 7 days. Based on the current forecast, no flooding due to the Brazos River through Fort Bend County is anticipated.

The National Hurricane Center is continuing to watch Ian which has now become the fourth Hurricane of the 2022 Hurricane Season. This system will continue in a northerly path working its way across western Cuban into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico. Ian is expected to work along the Florida west coast Thursday and eventually make landfall sometime late Thursday into Friday morning. Although this storm will not impact Texas, it is a good reminder on the impacts hurricanes can have in our region and how to prepare for future storms and seasons.
